Kanji A1-1 Tutor Support Course

Outline

This is a teacher support course for Filipinos who have studied hiragana and katakana and who can participate in Zoom sessions for the Group Online Lessons. One will study the origins and features of kanji, plus 20 A1 level kanji vocabulary. Using interactive study materials, one will learn kanji, vocabulary, read sentences, and match kanji with their meanings. There are also supplementary materials for those who want to practice typing and writing kanji.
In addition, six one-hour Group Online Lessons will be held during the course, where one will practice reading the words and sentences studied in MARUGOTO A1. Group Online Lessons will be held via Zoom on the following Saturdays from 11:00 to 12:00 nn (Philippine time): February 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27, and April 10, 2021.

This course has a Group noticeboard. You can study by communicating with your classmates and teacher through this noticeboard.
About the student selection process
The maximum number of students for this course is 20. Participants are determined by a selection process. For those who wish to apply, please read the course outline carefully. Then, within the designated application time period, please click the 'Course Registration' button and complete the application.

The results of the selection process are scheduled to be sent through email on February 9. Please note that those who will not be selected will automatically be placed on a waitlist, of which the results will be sent through email by February 16.

For those who have been selected based on the February 9 email, please make your payments through bank deposit/transfer. Bank details will be sent via email.
Payment period: February 9-15, 2021
Course fee: 1,000 pesos
Payment deadline: February 15, 2021, 15:00 (Philippine time). For those accepted from the waitlist, payment deadline will be informed through email.
Your eligibility for this course will be canceled in case payment is not received by the deadline.
Please note that cancellation after payment will not be allowed.
In the event that the course should not push through due to circumstances beyond the control of JFM, a refund will be made in accordance with regulations.

Course Objective "Can-do"

1. Able to understand the history, origins, and features of kanji.
2. Able to look at a restaurant menu and find the most basic information such as ingredients etc.
3. Able to understand the features of a friend's house after reading a short, simple email that arrived from a Japanese friend.
4. Able to read a short blog and understand what was done and when, if visual aids are available.

Teaching Materials Used

This is a tutor support course using the Kanji A1-1 self-study course site in "JF Japanese e-Learning Minato".
In the lessons, you will focus on the words that are found in the textbook "Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture A1 Katsudoo".

Study materials for this course are provided under the assumption that they are being accessed on a computer. Other devices do not meet the recommended environment.

About the Group Online Lessons

This course includes Six one-hour Group Online Lessons and a Reading Test to be held during the fifth Group Online Lesson via Zoom.

Group Online Lessons are conducted through Zoom (https://zoom.us/). With Zoom, the lesson room can be accessed by opening an assigned URL, so there is no need to download a system or to open an account. However, the program will need to be installed for the first lesson.

・Group Online Lessons connect learners from all over the Philippines. Please do not be late. Please understand that there may be delays, depending on the connection.
・Be sure to use a computer that is connected to the internet. It is better not to participate with a smartphone, as the instructor’s screen will be shared during live lessons.

Completion Requirements

Passing Score: Score of 60 points or higher

The allocation of points is as follows:
・Study Progress 50%
・Reading Test 40%
・Group Online Lesson Attendance 10%

Note:
You will not be issued a certificate of attendance if you do not take the Reading Test.
