Sadoo A1 Self-Study Course

Outline

Sadoo is one of the Japanese cultural traditions, and is not only about the drinking of tea, but it's a comprehensive artistic endeavor that also contains a variety of elements such as tools, etiquette, philosophy, aesthetics and so on.
In this course you will learn about the basics of Sadoo and related vocabulary, and how to be a guest at a tea ceremony, etc.
Following that, there will also be a video whereby you can experience Sadoo itself and the display of 'omotenashi'.

The course is designed for those who have never learned Sadoo before.
So, why not try your hand at the fun world of the tea ceremony?

※The procedure etc., of the tea ceremony introduced in this course follows the method of 'Urasenke' - one of the schools within Sadoo.

Course Objective "Can-do"

1) Able to understand the basics of Sadoo and related vocabulary.
2) Able to understand the basics of how to be a guest at a tea ceremony and the reasons behind it.
3) Able to be a guest at a tea ceremony while being conscious of the basics of how to be a guest and the reasons behind it.
4) Able to entertain and provide a pleasurable experience for the guest (omotenashi) by using the objects around them and in the preparation of bowls and sweets, etc.

Teaching Materials Used

Learn interactively using videos, VR contents, and quizzes, etc.
Able to take lessons using a PC or smartphone.

This course was created based on the text "Nihongo "Doki-Doki" Taiken Koryu Katsudo-shu: Japanese through Real Activities".

Completion Requirements

Passing Score: score of 60% or higher

The allocation of points is as follows.

STEP1  'Introduction' 10%
STEP2  Study 'What is Sadoo?' 20%
STEP3  Study 'How to be a guest at a tea ceremony' 20%
STEP4  Study & Practical Task 'Experience a tea ceremony via video' 20%
STEP5  Study & Practical Task 'Your omotenashi' 20%
STEP6  'Review what you have learnt' 10%
