This is a Japanese course for beginners aged 18 years and over, who live in Australia and can take a course in English.
The Marugoto A1-1 (Katsudoo & Rikai) Tutor Support Course is a course to comprehensively learn about the Japanese language and culture. In this course, you can self-study online while a regularly having your assignments corrected and receiving live lessons by a tutor.
This course is for those who will study Japanese for the first time. In the Katsudoo section of this course, you can gain practical communication skills for everyday situations by listening to a lot of Japanese as you practice speaking. Meanwhile, in the Rikai section, you can systematically learn how Japanese is used in communication. The objective is to gain a comprehensive Japanese ability that includes reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Please complete one lesson every ten days.
The following support is provided by tutors throughout the course.
・6 live lessons/class lessons (Once lesson every three weeks. The first live lesson will be a course orientation.)
・1 oral test
・Correction of assignments (Three Katsudoo and nine Rikai assighments)
This course has groups, too. Through the group noticeboard, you can study while communicating with friends that you learn with and tutors.
If you want to thoroughly study Japanese from scratch by yourself, while enhancing your practical skills with tutor support, this course is for you! You will meet other friends who study Japanese in the course group and live lessons, too!

About Live Lesson
■Live lessons (LL)
Live lessons are offered with one tutor for 5 students. One lesson is 40 minutes long and there is one lesson for every topic (7 in total including a course orientation and an oral test). The live lessons are based on conversations learned in the self-study materials and written assignments, so you will need to have completed the self-study for each topic before the live lesson.
Live lessons are scheduled by class. Please choose a class schedule where you can take part in all seven lessons, when you register for the course. Live lessons schedule may not be changed for any reason whatsoever.
Class 1: Wednesday 16:00-16:40 (Sydney time)
Feb. 21, Mar. 14, Apr. 4, Apr.18, May 16, June 6, June 13
*The lesson on 25 April will be moved to 18 April due to the Anzac Day.
Class 2: Friday 13:30- 14:10 (Sydney time)
Feb. 23, Mar. 16, Apr. 6, Apr. 27, May 18, June 8, June 15
■Oral test
The oral test is conducted one-on-one after all of the live lessons have been completed. The date will be decided by consultation with the tutor in charge after the course begins. It is usually about 15 minutes.
Class 1: Wednesday June 13, between 15:00-17:00 (Sydney time)
Class 2: Friday June 15, between 13:00-15:00 (Sydney time)
■System used
Live lessons and oral tests are conducted through Zoom <http://zoom.us/>. With Zoom, the lesson room can be accessed by opening an assigned URL, so there is no need to download a system or to open an account. However, the program will need to be installed for the first lesson.
The system requirements (necessary bandwidth) for the group video conference using Zoom are as follows.
Upload Speed 600kbps / Download Speed 1.2Mbps
For those who do not know the bandwidth of their internet connection, please use the following site to conduct a speed test. (This will transfer you to an external site.)

If selected, The Japan Foundation, Sydney will send you an email with an invoice and payment details. Please make payment no later than the payment deadline. Any bank transfer fees or surcharges are to be borne by the participant.

You may cancel your enrolment up until February 15, 2018. You are required to notify The Japan Foundation, Sydney via email in order to cancel your enrolment. Course fees will be refunded minus an administration fee of $50.
Should you need to cancel your enrolment after the above date due to circumstances beyond your control, you will be eligible to receive a refund equal to 50% of any remaining course fees (i.e., 50% of remaining live lesson fees, where each live lesson is calculated at $20 per lesson). The amount refundable is calculated from the date that The Japan Foundation, Sydney receives notification of your cancellation request via email.
